About Riverscape Untethered
Our ImPact
Every year, millions of Americans with mental illness struggle to find mental health care. Nearly half of the 60 million adults and children living with mental health conditions in the United States go without treatment. People who seek treatment must navigate a fragmented and costly system full of obstacles. As a result, many people cannot access mental health care when they need it most.
Despite the passage of the Mental Health Parity and Addictions Equity Act of 2008, significant barriers keep many Americans from accessing mental health treatment and support. There was a 0.3% increase from last year's dataset, the second year in a row that this indicator increased since the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). 8.1% of children had private insurance that did not cover mental health services, totaling 950,000 youth.
In 2019 Riverscape Counseling, a Private Practice Agency, formed a Pro Bono division we allocated one slot in each case load to address this Mental Health Crisis. In the past year, we have provided $32,000 in Pro Bono services for mental health, and we hope to offer more. What we realized is this need is ever increasing . As more and more people age they are on Medicare and often times are not able to receive the same quality mental health care services provided to those with commercial plans. They are outsourced to Agencies that are often times over staffed and over worked and they don't get heard.
The goal of more funding is to leverage Counselors to meet this critical, unmet, and well-defined client need. It is an essential mechanism for narrowing the justice gap. This will allow us to properly resource our counselors and make sure we have adequate funding to ensure that over time those who need it are provided with care.
